Storage Tips

Packing Supplies:

Make a list of making supplies you will need. Bubble wrap, boxes, moving blankets, packing tape, labels, foam peanuts, etc.

Large Items:

To maximize space, store large items like sofas, appliances, and mattresses vertically along the back of your unit.

Mattresses:

Use mattress protectors to fully preserve your mattresses.

Free Extra Storage:

Use furniture drawers for extra storage space instead of boxes

Blankets for Protection:

Place blankets between surfaces to avoid scratches and damages.

Avoid:

Be careful not to over pack boxes. They will be more difficult to lift and carry.

Frequently Used Items:

Label your boxes that contain frequently used items and place them near the entrance of your unit.

Stacking Boxes:

When stacking boxes, keep the heavier ones on the bottom.

Inventory List:

Make an inventory list while packing each box to help remember where your items are located for easy access. You can also write the contents of each box on the side of the box.

Heavy vs Light Items:

Pack heavy items in smaller boxes (books, tools) and light weight items (pillows, towels) in larger boxes. That way large boxes won’t be too heavy to carry.

Stacking Chairs:

Chairs can be stacked on one another to maximize space. Stack them “Seat to Seat”, one upside down on top of the other. Or, if possible, they can be nested.

X Marks the Spot:

Make an “X” with masking tape on mirrors and flat glass surfaces to minimize risk of breaking.

Accessibility:

Leave a walkway through the center of your unit to easily move around and access items.

Packing Boxes:

Opt for higher quality storage boxes that you know are pest free. Especially for clothing and other home goods. And if possible use boxes that are the same size. They’ll be easier to stack without wasted space.
